Once I get your commitment, a preparatory questionnaire will be sent to you (about 25 questions), which needs to be completed and returned to me before I begin. Your answers will guide me in doing the best job possible for you.

Expect a turnaround of about 3-6 weeks. It can be more or less, but the timing varies according to my schedule, the number of copy projects in the queue and the time it takes for you to answer my preparatory questionnaire.

Plus, when you request a quote and make a deposit, I'll reserve your spot into my schedule as my next available opening. Usually, writing copy from scratch takes several weeks while rewriting existing copy takes less than a month.

Need it fast or by a guaranteed deadline? I also offer rush services!

A rush service is any project that's required within a very specific timeframe or before the typical 3-6 weeks turnaround. If you want me to meet a guaranteed turnaround or deadline, you can order my rush service at a 50% surcharge.

Deposits for rush projects are payable 100%, upfront. Your project will be bumped up to the top of the queue. (Please allow at least a week or two.)

How Much Do You Charge?"

My job consists of two components: figuring out WHAT to say and then HOW to say it. The second part is usually the easiest. So if your copy exists and just needs to be edited, rewritten or polished, your investment will be less.

But if your copy needs to be written entirely from scratch, or if it needs to be rewritten and the scope is substantially different, then my higher fee applies.

The following is a list of the types of projects I accept:

  1. Sales letter (web, print, email or direct mail);
  2. Advertorial-style display ad with dense copy;
  3. Single-offer autoresponder series (5-7 emails);
  4. TV or radio 30-minute infomercial script; or,
  5. Website (5-7 pages of 100-500 words each).

Each one of the above is separate and considered as an individual project, with a different outcome and fee. This applies with royalty-based projects, too.

If you hire me to write a salesletter AND an accompanying follow-up email autoresponder series for example, they are considered as 2 projects — even though they ultimately lead to the same outcome, which is more sales.

My fee is based on the number of pages. A "page" is a letter-sized, 8.5" x 11" or A4 page when the copy is printed. It's usually about 400 words per page.

The fee is simple. It's $1,000 per page for copy "from scratch," or $800 per page for a rewrite. Please note that direct, out-of-pocket expenses are always extra, and there's a minimum $3,000 charge with ANY copywriting project.

"How Do I Pay You? Do You Accept
Royalties or Work On Commission?"

Traditional, one-time flat fees are structured on a 50-50 basis. That is, a 50% deposit is required and the remaining 50% is due immediately upon delivery.

But you may also choose a commission-based (i.e., royalty) arrangement, where I make money only if you make money. It's win-win. In this case, the structure is the same as above, except for the following differences:

  • 50% deposit is a non-refundable, guaranteed draw against commissions.
  • Commissions consist of 5% of gross sales my copy generates for you.
  • "Draw" means commissions are due only once they exceed the deposit.

Plus, here's another advantage. Since I have a vested interest in making the copy work, I will do up to 3 extra revisions free of charge to make sure it does.

However, there are a few conditions to meet. To be considered for a 5% commission-based arrangement, you must meet a few criteria, which are:

  1. The project must involve direct sales.
  2. You must be established for at least one year.
  3. You must have an in-demand product or service.
  4. You must accept my copy as is. (No changes.)
  5. You must pay my commissions on a biweekly basis.
  6. You must allow me full access to your merchant accounts, bank statements or other financials in order to audit your results.

If it's a lead generator and I'm not writing subsequent sales copy, I can arrange a flat per-lead royalty or a per-piece-mailed royalty instead. I also write other types of copy work. Click to see a list of them with their fees.

Critiques are payable 100%, upfront. You may order a single critique, or several critiques on items you wish for me to review TOGETHER — such as a website and a supporting autoresponder series. Note that these count as 2 critiques.

Critique on a single item is $500-$1,000 USD per piece.

Fees vary depending on project type, size and goal. A critique on a single item (2-3 pages), with a single goal, is $700. Critiques on larger projects, such as long copy sales letters, infomercials or autoresponder series, are $1,000 each.

With your authorization, you are also responsible for direct, out-of-pocket expenses, if any, and will be charged accordingly — such as postage, long distance phone charges, copying, travel, etc. But usually, there are none.

Send me your materials either by email or by postal mail when you order. Materials submitted for review may be published as examples. Do not submit materials you wish to keep confidential — or else a 100% surcharge applies.

Critiques are done in the order they are received. If you're in a rush, add the 50% rush surcharge. Also, submitted materials will not be returned.
